Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities To provide team leadership and technical guidance to the server team for the data management initiative within a large dynamic and fast paced financial services company supporting many large-scale servers and SAN attached storage in a multi data center environment. High-level responsibilities will include: Coaching, Mentoring and Overseeing all build services and “day to day” operational support activities for the data management initiative. The Systems manager will be at the forefront of activities like Establishing and Driving standards & processes, Analyzing and understanding requirements for Server sizing, Performance tuning & Capacity management and be able to identify potential areas for improvement. Other detailed duties and responsibilities will include: • Key responsibility is to manage and oversee the existing vendor relationship for the Data Management initiative. • Develop strong relationship with various lines of businesses to proactively anticipate emerging needs. Keep up on industry trends and best practices from a business and technology perspective. • Managing multiple business initiatives through all phases of the project lifecycle including, estimation, scheduling, design, construction, testing, and operational readiness release into production. • Establishing team strategy and ensuring “best in class” operational support of the Server domain based on defined service levels including: on-call schedules, escalation procedures, timely response and resolution of issues, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), preventative action follow-through, participation in weekly operations reviews, and regular reporting on Database availability. • Building infrastructure teams including Interviewing, Recommending and Hiring staff as required. • Management of Staff schedules, Task assignments, Project deliverables and Annual reviews. • Accountable for performance and development of infrastructure COE Team, including training, mentoring and motivating members of the team and mapping employee aspirations. • Reporting metrics on Project status and Resource utilization to the upper management. • Partnering with 3rd party vendors and the onsite team leadership to escalate and resolve issues as expeditiously as possible. • Developing strong working relationship with GDCs, Vendors and Onsite IT teams • Overseeing adherence to process, standards and practices in environment • Participating in the evaluation, recommendation, and prototyping of new solutions and Vendors. Required Qualification and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline • Minimal 8-10 years of Systems Administration experience preferably in Enterprise class servers. • 2+ years experience managing a team of 4 or more Systems Administrators. • Strong Operating System experience in Solaris, HP/Ux, Linux, Windows etc. • Exposure to storage technologies in a Fiber SAN environment (preferably EMC - DMX/Symm, Clariion, Emulex or Qlogix HBAs, PowerPath, STK Libraries, LTO Drives) • System tape backup technologies including: Veritas NetBackup and Virtual tape drives • Web Server knowledge (Apache/Iplanet), Samba, sendmail, NFS and NIS • Server Cluster experience with either Sun Clustering or Veritas Cluster Server • Dynamic Leader with strong ability to motivate others as well as provide needed direction. • Experience in managing and leading large infrastructure projects. • Innovative team player with strong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills • Solid organization skills and ability to effectively handle concurrent aggressive assignments • Excellent communication skills. Preferred Experience • PMP certification • Solaris 10 knowledge including implementation and deployment of Dtrace • Solaris Virtual Provisioning and Resource Management experience • Proactive Monitoring using a third party framework such as: BMC Patrol, HP Openview, CA UniCenter) • Backup and Disaster Recovery experience using Veritas NetBackup / Solaris Flash Archive • Administration of Weblogic or Websphere application tier software. • Prior GE Experience • Six Sigma Certification
